Do I have a chance?

My gpa is 3.44 and my sat score without my writing is 1040
I have not done much in my school except for national art honors society, but my senior yera (this year) I will be in a group that I started.
Do I have any chance of getting into University of South Carolina Columbia????
Please help!

Starting a club or group will look great on your application because it shows leadership.

Is your gpa a 3.44 weighted or unweighted?

Your SAT is decent, but if you take it again in October, it could improve.

Have you taken challenging courses (ie honors, ap, ib, etc)? That will always look good to an admissions officer.

Also, are you in state or out of state? In state you will have a bigger shot of getting in.

Work on your SAT’s and you should be fine.

Good luck!

Thanks for helping,
My gpa isn’t weighted, I am taking the sats in october too
and I have taken 2 aps and am taking 2 more this year
also, I am out of state :/

wouldnt it make it easier to get in being out of state since they have fewer out of state?

No. SC is a public university meant to serve the citizens of South Carolina. That means that the standards are higher for OOS applicants.

I think you should apply regardless, but you’re probably in the 10-15th percentile in terms of SAT and the 20-25th percentile on GPA. SAT scores for out-of-state students are usually at least 10 points higher than the average for incoming freshman. Your best shot of improving your chances is increasing your SAT score.

they want out of state money though so it makes it easier

For some schools, yes. Not for SC. It isn’t terribly harder to get in OOS vs. in-state, but it is harder.
