Hamilton College is my top choice. I want to go into their pre-med program. My class rank is now only in the 30% but it used to be higher due to family issues. I am trying to move on with my life now. As far as extras I have been on swim team for 3 years and have helped out in math tutoring and the local upbeat program.
On friday I am going for an interview to let them know how serious I am. I realize this might be a bit of a reach but I am an extremely motivated person.

there is no pre med program…

O Really, then whats this

[Hamilton College - medicine - Medicine: Pre-Med Requirements](http://www.hamilton.edu/academics/healthprofessions/premedrequirements.html)

thats not a pre med program thats just whats recommended to get into medical school
the fact that you want to go into pre-med has no bearing on your chances because there is no specific pre med program because its all one school

Jeez alright program or not as long as I get the requirements I dont care. No need to be a ****** about it.

Post more of your stats so we can chance you.

no need to be a sarcastic jerk about it when you are only applying to the school and clearly dont know that much about it

Hold on! What’s all this fuss is about and why is there this harsh tone relating to a simple request for information?

Like all top LACs Hamilton College has a pre-med program in that it outlines the usual courses medicals expect applicants to take and the required courses that lead to the recommended preparation. Students have academic advisors as well who know what the student’s plan is.

My suggestion is, as always, go to the source, in this case the Admissions Office and possibly current students who serve as link resources. Ask specific questions about what you have read online. You will receive the type of answers you expect and thereby avoid distracting, tiresome and abusive feedback.

Good luck with your college search!

Yeah, fifa 2010, has been out of line from the get go. I don’t get it. Good luck markham.

right because saying “there is no pre med program” is TOTALLY out of line
My bad for getting snippy but normally a pre med program entails something you have to get into and is separate from other parts of the school. A pre med program is not a list of guidelines that tell you what to do to be considered “pre-med”.

One of the benefits of a liberal arts education is to learn how to understand issues and relate to them before attempting to resolve them. Here is a perfect example of a knee jerk response and a dogged defense of an unsatisfactory action well after others in the community have responded with useful assistance.

I hope that this will serve as a teaching moment; I can only imagine that the mission of a top LAC has been misunderstood. It’s teaching first at the highest level of quality and programs as such second.

Good luck to applicants to both LACs and large universities in terms of pursuing what they want to achieve through their studies and through life!

Thanks for the support and I am determined to put forth my best effort to get into Hamilton. After going for the interview I feel much better about my chances and realize that I have the potential.

As soon as I stepped through the admission office I felt completely at ease with its charming look. The director was very nice and we even worked out a course of action that would give me the best chance. One thing he did mention is that gpa, while an important factor does not make or break it and the application is really looked at as a whole.

My advice if you are interested or not sure is to go for an interview.

I am pleased to hear that you are on track with your college search as a consequence of your visit to Hamilton College.

Also, I wanted to let you know that I am alumnus of Hamilton’s nearest LAC which happens to be in Hamilton, NY- a drive of about 25 minutes from Clinton.

Have you taken a look there as well? If so, and if you have questions, use the Colgate board and you will receive lots of support. I just looked at the colgate.edu website and there is a lot of information about its pre-med advising program.

Good luck!

I am a current Hamilton student and I am not in the pre-med program myself, but I have many friends who are. This is a very difficult program at Hamilton, as all pre-med programs are. Once you get into the school, you can discuss with your advisor what the best plan for you is, and you can major in neuroscience, biology, chemistry, etc while taking other courses to prepare you for medical school.

I have al least two friends currently on the pre-med track whose parents are currently doctors. While this does not mean much, these are parents who are doctors that send their kids to Hamilton precisely because it will offer them a liberal arts education while giving them the tools and classes necessary to be a highly competitive candidate for med school.

Also, Hamilton’s $56 million state-of-the-art science center was redone just a few years ago. Like I said, I am not pre-med so I have not been in half of the rooms there, but this building has every kind of lab you can imagine.
