Do i have a chances

Hey I just finished my first semester at J Sargent Community College and i ended up leaving with a 3.3 gpa. I did on sight admissions with the Virginia Tech guys and they put me on hold. They wanted to see my grades that I get for this semester before I get rejected or accepted. My sat scores were not as good as the average that they usually get, and I did screw around a lot in high school but I am really trying hard in college now to actually make something of myself.

SAT:1360 including writing
High School GPA:2.2
College 3.3

I am trying to major in psychology and am really hoping to get in, could anyone tell me their opinion so I can actually sleep and get prepared for whatever happens.

I am also Bosnian, first generation college student, and will be considered in-state, if that will help any?

“and I did screw around a lot in high school but I am really trying hard in college now to actually make something of myself.”

I’m afraid it’s real difficult to make last-minute amends now.

You absolutely have a chance. Some states have transfer agreements with CCs that allow students to transfer to any state school after two years with a certain GPA; others don’t have such agreements but still willingly take CC students. In your case, it sounds like they just want to see your first semester grades to make sure you’ve improved since HS. Luckily, you have (a 1.1 increase is very impressive!), and my bet is that you’ll be hearing good things from VT.

Thanks hopefully I get accepted. That made my day a lot better actually
