I am a navy veteran. 24 years old, mixed race. I did 2 semesters at UM-Dearborn and doing summer semester at Washtenaw Community College. I received mostly B’s at Dearborn because I took hard classes and professors screwed me over in 2 classes. I am getting straight A’s at Washtenaw (It’s so easy over there). I should have a 3.45 GPA and 48 credits by the time I apply after summer semester. Also my mom and sisters all went to UofM. All the courses I have taken transfer to LSA. I am applying as undeclared.
Your GPA is weak, but your background is extremely compelling. I think the key here will be effectively and eloquently telling your story.
Just adding you should attend Transfer Tuesday if you can https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/transfer-students
At Transfer Tuesday you have the opportunity to sit down with an admissions rep, have a credit evaluator take a look at your courses/transcripts, and meet with an academic advisor. Don’t say professors screwed you over in the courses with lower grades, take responsibility should it come up. Good luck.
