Do I have a learning dissability?

In elementary school I always had to read the lowest level books, in middle school I was put into special reading programs (part of it might be because of problems with family at the time and me not trying). I am in high school now and am taking hard classes and am getting ready for the SAT/ACT in the next few months including AP exams/SAT II's. I am a very slow reader and like to take my time, if I am rushed I will not perform well and this is making me scared of all the tests that are coming up for me. In some of my classes (AP ones and harder honors) I will get test anxiety and will always finished last if I do finish. In pressured situations I will make mistakes. For biology for example, it will take me many hours to read a chapter, I will end up probably studying more than the rest of my class and I end up doing worse than most. This is one of the most annoying things for me right now. I have a friend who gets extended time on his tests/standardized test because he has an IEP and does better than me in school and I am pretty sure he is a faster reader than me. How could I apply for extended time??

Go talk to your guidance counselor. Insist on having a full assessment so that the causes of the slow reading can be identified. Since you were in special reading classes in middle school, you should have some kind of record on file. Get your files re-opened, and get a new IEP. If you are in HS, you are old enough to ask for an IEP on your own. Be polite, but make a total pest of yourself until you get the help that you need.
