Do I have a moderately decent chance of being admitted into UW?

I wish UW would at least consider the class rank for admissions. I mean, it shouldn’t put non-top 10% students at a significant disadvantage, but it should at least be praised and be an extra factor in deciding whether or not a student is worthy of being admitted. What’s not impressive about beating out 90% of your graduating class, who have the same teachers as you and are assigned the same work as you?

Academically you have a great chance. But if you say your EC is a joke, than it might hurt your chances. Try joining a club that fits your interest, or maybe start a club of your own. GOOD LUCK!

I’m actually pretty confident that I’ll be admitted into the NHS next fall. And while it would’ve been better if I had been in it longer, I think it provides the advantage of showing UW that I am taking “full academic advantage of my senior year”, which I am. Rising to a new level, you know what I mean?

I would still like some more feedback on this thread, by the way :P

^ No offense, but what more do you want?
You already got a bunch of people giving their own opinions/feedbacks and you’re still expecting more? Seriously dude. You’re fine. Just breathe and stop psyching yourself out.
I suggest taking all the advices you got on this thread and moving on with your life.
STOP relying on statistics (such as the 53% acceptance rate). START writing the best activities descriptions and personal/cultural essays.

I don’t mean to sound rude but just wanted to tell you to calm down and stop worrying ^^. Worrying gets you nowhere.

If you want a suggestion, just a reference to your second to last post, LOTS of people join NHS and I don’t believe that by saying that you’re “taking full academic advantage of senior year” is going to cut it. From my own personal experience, my EC’s weren’t really academic-based but more from interest. I actually loved my EC’s and poured hours into perfecting my activities descriptions and tried to come across as being ‘genuine’ and ‘sincere’. The point of the activities journal log of the application is for UW to figure out what kind of person you are. Are you adventurous? Curious about life? Do you like to challenge the usual social norm? My overall point is, you don’t want to barf out random activities just because it looks good on paper, but try to include EC’s where you feel like you made a difference or feel that you’ve been impacted the most from.

Hope this helped!

Just an update on my GPA: I believe that my GPA for this semester will be a 4.0, providing I didn’t do anything wrong on my US History final. This will increase my cumulative GPA. You guys don’t think the adcoms will scoff at this because I chose the easier history class, right? This is also the first time I’ve had a solid A in English since my freshman year.

Oh, and also the first time I’ve gotten a solid A in a science class since freshman year.

bump…

Bad news, guys. I currently have an A- in my U.S. History class, and unless I can somehow convince my teacher to add ONE point to an assignment tomorrow, that will be my final grade. Would this be horribly detrimental to my application next year?

No. If I were you, I’d look through my old assignments/tests and argue a point back. And of course, an A- would make your GPA lower than if you got an A… It probably won’t kill your chances… I think you need to use more common sense when it comes to the type of questions you’ve been posting.

I was able to pull through with an A-, and then an A in AP World History during my sophomore year. Coming out with an A- in regular U.S. history in my junior year just looks…sad.

Update: my U.S. History teacher assured me that although it says I have an A- online, he’ll give me a solid A on the actual report card. Something that’s been bothering me lately is whether or not I should stuff Japanese 3 into my senior schedule, despite taking a year off from it. I’m really not interested in it, nor do I believe that it will actually “prepare” me more for college, since I am fluent in Vietnamese. It would also be more difficult.

Is there a spot on the application where I can tell UW that I’m fluent in another language?

bump 10 char

bump10char

oiewjaiojeios

Update: My GPA is now 3.935 :D

Honestly, is this a joke or something? I mean really, could you be so worried about such minor things?

I agree…stop bumping

Honestly, if my sister, who is white, can get in you are a shoe-in! Diversity means alot to colleges, And Uw is very diverse if you have ever been in their campus. My sister scored a 1700 on SAT and only had Varsity volleyball sophomore and junior year. Two APs sophomore year, dropped world history cause she was failing though, and two more sophomore year that she some how maintained. Her cumulative gpa at Junior year was a 3.59 so you should definitley get in. And thanks for replyying to mine!

Sweet! And good luck on your application!
