Do I Have a Shot at EA?

Georgetown is my #1 choice right now and I would love to be accepted early and not have to worry about any more decisions. However, EA has a lower acceptance rate and my profile is not “spectacular” so I know if its worth it. Would I have a decent chance at EA or should I just wait for RD?

Background- Asian middle class, no hooks, above average high school in terms of rankings but most go to our local state schools. Once in a while someone gets into somewhere amazing.

Objective Stats
GPA- ~97 UW, ~99-100 W; 4.0 unweighted on 4.0 scale but we use 100% scale
SATs- took March so no scores but 1410 PSAT so assuming I get the same thing. I feel fairly confident I did as well or better.
SAT IIs- 720 Bio E, will take Math II and maybe US History
Rank- 2/110, high chance I will be #1 after this year
Rigor- 7 APs, 9 honors throughout high school, while there are people that had more rigorous freshman/sophomore year schedules, overall counting all four years my schedule is the most rigorous in my grade

ECs
FBLA-2 years- treasurer(11), president(12)- 1st at regionals, didn’t place at states
Model UN- 2 years- treasurer(12)- outstanding speaker, two events per year
Tennis- 3 years- Varsity team, club team(winters), clinics year round, especially during summer which is almost 20 hrs/week- #2 singles on varsity team
Students against destructive decisions(SADD)-4 years-treasurer(11)- I know a lot of other schools have this but we have one program in this club that’s really awesome. I can’t go too in detail about for anonymity reasons but I would even consider writing an EC essay on this one.
Engineering competition-11th grade- did not do well at all, first time we’ve joined this competition and did terrible so might as well not put this, not much time spent on it either
A few others(NHS, piano, etc) not as important but stuff I’ve done all four years other than NHS which only upperclassmen join.

Yes, you have a chance. I was admitted EA and your stats (academically at least) look a little stronger than mine. That said, I spent a TON of time on my essays and really making sure that my passions showed through, and I think that resonated with the adcom. Also, make sure you ask your teachers NOW if you haven’t already for your letters of rec - they’ll have much more time over the summer than they will at the beginning of next year. I think Georgetown as a whole is a school that looks beyond the transcript more than others; while the transcript is still a prerequisite to admission, it really helps to have a good “story” or a strong passion. Best of luck!

@2016senior2020 Did you have any hooks or any incredible EC achievements/awards? I can probably write a good essay and I can get good recommendations as my school is really small so teachers know me pretty well.

@class0f2017 Not any hooks really. I did work closely with the governor of my home state and got a stellar letter of rec from him which I guess you could count as an “extracurricular achievement” but other than that I’m just really passionate about what I do. I made a point of minimizing the “resume fillers” I’ve participated in in high school so that I could devote more time to what I love and I think the adcom noticed that. People scoffed at me for quitting a community service club, for instance, even though I knew it was shallow and meaningless, citing that it would look bad for college. Regardless, I went ahead. Just show them what you care about! There are no perfect applicants. Just believe in yourself and be yourself - if you try to be someone else in your application and don’t get in, you’ll regret that decision forever.

@2016senior2020 Wow I saw your chance me, you had a great profile. Congrats on your acceptance, you really deserved it!

@class0f2017 Thanks! Best of luck with your application
