Do I have any chance at all of getting into Cornell?

I've gotten 2 application packages from Cornell, which confused me very much, since I am not exactly ivy league material. I majorly slacked off the first two years of high school, and then grew up starting junior year when I realized no one was going to pay for my education if I didn't work hard, and got very good grades. In these past two years, I've only taken one regular class; all the rest have been honors, two APs last year, and I'm taking 5 APs this year.

My GPA unweighted is 3.5, weighted 4.2, though I'm sure by the end of this semester I can get unweighted up to 3.7, since I'm taking some classes for forgiveness online which I failed in freshman year.

My SAT scores are decent, I got a 710 in reading and 620 in math. 700 in writing.

I'm hispanic, part of the "Native American or Alaska Native" category, which Cornell only has around 6 percent of (which I suspect is the reason why they're sending me mail, they're aiming to diversify their student body).

I did okay on my 2 AP tests last yr: got a 5/5 in psyc, and 3 in french.

I would like to go into medical school, and study psychology as well--aiming to be a psychiatrist.

Do I have a remote chance, or is it not even worth trying ? The admissions rate is very tough =/

Oh, extra curriculars- I haven’t been extremely involved, but I am part of French Honor Society, English Honor Society, National Forensics League (debate team, won one tournament), SHAPE (philanthropic organization), and this other similar club, “For the better”. No leadership positions =/. Community hours were mainly me being part of school plays and stuff. By the end of high school I should have around 300.

It’s worth trying for sure, especially if you’re passionate about Cornell and show that in your essays and by applying ED. You’ll have an upward trend for grades, which is good. Just study up in math for your SATs, get Gruber’s for it. Try to focus your ECs a little more on things related to what you want to study.

Yeah, I looked at the average SAT scores, and math is really killing me :expressionless: oh how I hate math! I’ll definitely be studying very hard for the January SATs.

Thanks for your advise!

I also forgot to mention class ranking-I’m in 10%, but that’s not saying much, since my school isn’t very academically oriented, and I’m sure they look into that.

keep in mind that if you dont apply you have a 100% of not getting in. alot of people applying to cornell don’t think they are “ivy” material but they all have passion. so I say go for it.
