Do I have any chance at becoming Vet Tech?

I am a junior in high school and I have currently been interested in Intrenational Business College and their Vet Tech program in Indiana. I was wondering if I have a chance at being accepted. My biggest fear is being rejected because of my math grades. I have not been very strong in math but I am currently struggling to raise a D to a C in Algebra 2. I completed the first part of Algebra 2 with a D and Im nervouse that that will be the outcome of the second part of this course. I hope that this will not hold me back from pursuing the oppurtunity of my dream job. Next year as a senior, I am planning on retaking Algebra 1 again so I can raise THOSE Ds to Bs:) Or I may retake it in the summer. I am also planning on doing Co-op for veternairian because that will help me be prepared to be a Vet Tech and hopefully that will look good on my transcript. So please give me some helpful suggestions and thoughts so I can sleep at night. This has really been bothering me.

I’m currently in a selective vet tech program in PA (less than 25% accepted). My advice to you would be to try and bring up those math grades and take as many sciences as you can. Directors of programs generally like to see a few things: an affinity for science, experience in the field (it’s good that you’re starting that), and some gen eds done. So to increase your chances I would recommend taking a semester or even a year before applying to finish some of the prerequisites for the program (ex: english 1&2, chemistry, microbiology, math, electives…whatever the specific program requires). All of this, especially the experience, should put you in good standing to be accepted. Also try to get some good letters of recommendation, maybe from veterinarian friends if you can. Good Luck!

Check out the vet tech program at Becker College in Massachusetts. If you can get your math grades up a bit, you should have a real shot at it. I like your positive attitude!
