Do I have any chance of being accepted to the University of Central Florida?

I did not realize how competitive this college is and it is my second choice. Now, it is my first since getting rejected from my number 1 choice. I do not have very good grades at the community college and my high school. I am currently deferred an admission decision pending my final transcript from my community college in Illinois. My high school g.p.a. was about a 2.5 or so. My college g.p.a. that I originally sent them was a 2.0 which I know is their minimum requirement, but there are always things they don’t tell you such as they really look for a 3.0 maybe. Anyway, I did better this last semester ending with a 3.0 for the semester which will boost my overall to about 2.4. I hope they will see the increase in effort I put in my last semester and see how I am turning things around. I will also have my Associates in Science by the time I were to go there. My ACT was a 25. I have a 3 on an AP Psychology class. I just want to know if there is any chance. I am not sure what I am going to do if I do not get this. Thanks.

From UCF’s website:

For freshmen, the mid-range (middle 50%) of our Fall 2014 entering class was:

GPA : 3.6 – 4.2
(recalculated academic core)
SAT : 1190 – 1310
(critical reading and math)
SAT : 1750 – 1930
(critical reading, math, and writing)
ACT : 25 – 29
(composite)

UCF has a minimum GPA for admittance of 3.50. There are always exceptions to the rules: sports ability, musical or artistic talent, and so on.

I know you really want to go to UCF but if you get denied what you can always do of take a program they have where you go to their neighboring community college for 2 years & once it’s up then they’ll automatically accept you into ucf, which is what my friend is doing. Call them & find out the info first because I’m not too familiar with how it works.

What is so special about UCF that you are coming from Illinois? I assume you have the funds to afford out-of-state tuition. IF you get accepted, you will most likely be offered summer or spring admission. I know at least five students with GPA’s of 3.4+ who are still waiting for the final round of admissions (coming next week.)

From your user name, I see you want to be close to Disney. If you have the $$ to afford this, you may attend Valencia College (comm college) which is 5 miles away.

I don’t want to be in Illinois. I applied for fall admission so if I were accepted that’s what I would get. I do have the money to afford it. I don’t want to go to Valencia because I already have an associates degree.

Thanks but i already went to a community college for 2 years so Valencia is kind of out of the question especially with having to be able to get an apartment and deal with that. I got accepted into the D.A.V.E. school so if I don’t get ucf I will definitely still be going to Florida.

Didn’t understand that you have an AA. Are you considered “First Time In College” - did you get the AA via Dual Enrollment? If so, they can definitely offer you summer admission and refuse a fall start.

The DAVE school does not award bachelor’s degree. They offer “certificate programs”. Have you considered Full Sail University?

No, I got my AS while only in college. So, there will be no summer start. It doesn’t even matter because I won’t be getting into UCF I’m sure. I have done my research about Full Sail and have learned that I do not want to risk not being able to get a job because they are not accredited and they do not help you that much with getting a job. Because of the type of career I am going into, DAVE would be a good choice I believe because it is basically on the job training. I do not necessarily want or need a bachelors degree right away. So, if I didn’t get UCF, I plan to go to DAVE school and get the certificate then be able to work entry level positions in my field and eventually go back and get a bachelors degree when I have the grades from DAVE to get accepted as well as a better portfolio.

Sounds like you have a plan! Best of luck in your pursuits.

Just to note others, Full Sail University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC), and is licensed by the Commission for Independent Education (CIE), Florida Department of Education.

Florida Technical College is a college accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to award Bachelor degrees, Associate of Science degrees, and diplomas. DAVE is a branch of FTC, but does not offer anything that they are actually accredited for - they offer certificates. In addition, DAVE is not a resource for federal aid (FAFSA), bright futures, Florida Prepaid, or scholarships requiring an accredited 2/4 year program.

Just go to Valencia for a couple of years and then transfer. Valencia is actually a very nice college.

Actually already went to community college so I’m good. I’m not gonna go to Valencia.

Just wanted to let everyone know, I did actually get accepted. Now just to make up my mind!! I didn’t think I was going to have options o.O
