Do I have any chance of getting into a good college?

First of all, I am new, so I may possibly be posting in the wrong place or with the wrong format so I apologize.

So here is my dilemma; I am going to be a high school senior from 2011-2012. In my Freshman and Sophomore years my unweighted cumulative GPA was about a 3.656/4.0. However, during my junior year I began to attend a school that allows a high schooler to attend college 2 years earlier than most students so that one may earn an advanced high school diploma. I did horribly at college and my GPA dropped to a 2.970/4.0 for my junior year. My cumulative high school GPA is about a 3.42/4.0. My weighted GPA was about 4.72/6.0 (my school uses a 6.0 scale) for my first two years and probably around a 4.5/6.0 now. My SAT scores are currently 1900 [720 Math, 600 Writing, 580 Reading], but I took the SAT again in June and anticipate a 2000 [750 Math, 650 Writing, 600 Reading]. I have roughly 120 community service hours. I will be returning to my old high school for my 2011-2012 school year. I was part of 3 or 4 extracurriculars clubs (and earned medals and recognition) both my freshman and sophomore years, and was part of 2 clubs my junior year (one of which I created). My teachers will be able to write me good recommendation letters (I believe) and I am decent at writing essays.

EDIT: My rank was 62/426 and I expect that it is close to 100/426 now.

I will be applying to the following colleges as soon as possible:
University of California - Berkeley
University of Texas at Austin
University of Texas at Dallas
Georgia Institute of Technology
Texas A&M University

My fear is that I will not be accepted to any of these colleges (except maybe UTD). I would also like to earn scholarships for these colleges and believe that I have no chance of this. Does anyone have any reassurance or advice for me? I also wanted to ask what other colleges would be good for the field of material science.

Thank you.

If I were you, I would lower my standards a bit. If your bad grades occurred in your freshman year opposed to your junior year, then you may have had a chance. But, now, I would say that it would be virtually impossible for you to get into the following school mentioned (except UTD).

I REALLY want to go to UT Austin. Any ideas? Is there anything that I can do to get me in?

If you can get your projected SAT score (preferably higher, though), and write some killer essays, your chances will go up from what they are now. How much leadership do you have? (other than creating clubs.) Also, are you in-state at any of them?

I just realised that pretty much all of what I posted is totally obvious. Sorry for not being much help.

Well, in 7th grade I was part of a leadership summit. In 9th and 10th grade I ran 2 committee’s for UNICEF and third world country land mine detection program. I was an officer of student affairs during my junior year. (And of course I was president of my club). I also believe I will get another leadership position for this year.

I am giving my SAT scores very conservatively. My projected scores account for more mistakes than I expect so it could be closer to 2100, but this is if everything went well.

I know it’s obvious, but I really appreciate the advice. Thanks.

Any other tips?

Anyone? Anyone at all?

I forgot to mention I live in Texas.

If you live in Texas, you are in at U Dallas. And I would say you have a good chance at UT Austin as well. I also think that you are IN at Texas A&M. I would say Georgia Tech is a reach and I’m sorry to say I think you have no chance at Berkley.

First of all, I’d like to say that I got my SAT results today and I GOT A 2120! I WAS SO HAPPY (780 Math, 710 Writing, 630 Crit. Reading).

@stewta4: Well thanks for the info, and I assumed I had little to no chance of Berkeley and GT, but I was just asking.
