Do I have any chance of getting into Tech?

I was going to apply a long time ago but the school moved down on my list. Now that I've been getting rejected from almost every school I applied to, I'm applying to all the other places because I want more than one acceptance.. PLUS this school looks really nice..

Do you think I have any remote chance?

I'm generally quite good with essays and I have a reliable person to look them over. They should be quite good.

...Chances? Thanks lots.

Only 3% of admitted students had an UWGPA below 3.24. It looks pretty doubtful.

Don’t listen to G.P.Burdell. You should still give a shot and apply to Tech. You seem to take very rigorous classes, and those count! Tech applies weight and looks at the difficulty of your classes as well as your grades. Plus, your extracurriculars look awesome! Apply!

Don’t listen to comoseva. Tech hardly looks at class rigor…all they care about is GPA (eg: Some kid taking easy classes and bringing in a 3.8 at a bad school would get in over you with a 3.0).

Viv- let’s be real. The facts are the facts, and this guy is a reach based on GPA. Less than 3% of admitted students had a GPA less than 3.24, and those individuals likely had some sort of hook (recruited athlete, international student, perfect SAT, has a patent or two, child of a state senator, etc).

I’m not saying that the guy shouldn’t apply, just that Tech is an extreme reach, and he shouldn’t expect to get in. He should have other, more attainable schools on his list. If he gets in, fantastic. If he doesn’t, he shouldn’t be too surprised.

The majority of Tech applicants either have all IB courses or 5 AP courses. In addition, the majority of admitted students reported AP Calc AB or BC (or equivalent college courses or IB courses) while this person has AP Statistics, only. That does count, because calculus is a major stumbling block for many students, and completion of an AP Calculus course decreases the probability of failure. AP Stats is not considered to be as rigorous of a math preparation.

I get that you’re an optimistic person, but you’ve got to be real sometimes. You’re an engineer for crying out loud - an optimistic engineer is the most dangerous person in the world. (“Don’t worry. I’m sure that bridge will hold!”) Engineers keep it real for a reason.

That’s actually not true.

And only 2% of admits had ACT math scores in the range of 18-23.
