Hey,

I'm interested in applying to UChicago as an international student (I'm from Mexico) but I'm really nervous about all the admission process. I know UC aceptance's rate is really mall so I'd like to have some thoughts about it
My GPA is 3.692 SAT 2200 and TOEFL iBTS 105.
My letter of recomendations were great.
I haven't taken any IB/AP classes because they were not offered at my school but I took a lot of courses in the last three years (many of them in Art and Humanities) and I have always been in the top 3 of all of them, and extracurriculars:

-I had my first art exhibition a few months ago and I'm having another one this month.
-I painted two murals during high school and got diplomas
-Artistic and cultural center for children. Assistant-Teacher/Volunteer
-Volunteer at a dogs shelter for the past 2 years.
-Staff member of the International Book Fair in my city.
-Editor of the literary magazine of my school during senior year.

And I know it doesn't count but I won a National Merit back in 6th grade.haha oh and I'm also applying to Duke and Columbia

Thanks (:

karly–You have an interesting story. Your SAT score is very very good which will help. And you say you have very good recommendations, which will certainly help. I think you have a shot. In my opinion the determining factor will be how you pull it all together and relate your background to what UChicago looks for in students with your essays. Also, do as well as you can this school term in terms of GPA.

From a financial perspective, you know that UChicago is need aware for International students (as are the other choices for schools you mentioned)? Best of luck to you.

I think you have a good chance
Apply EA so your odds to get in is higher

I’m an incoming first year at Uchicago, my GPA was almost exactly the same as yours (I had an upward trend from freshman year to first semester senior year) and my SAT was also a 2200. I applied regular decision, which had about half the acceptance rate of EA, and got in, and you seem to have some really interesting activities that i think would give you a great shot.

I’m unaware of my rec strength, but my essay very much fit the mold of a uchicago student, and was very good (biased) if very poorly spelled and with horrible grammar. I think your art exhibits will be a big bonus. Good luck.

GPA a bit low, but maybe you can overcome it?

AFeistyAlbatross Thank you! your response cheered me up (: haha
I’m applying EA and my GPA is 3.8 at the moment, fingers crossed!
