I visited Hamilton over spring break and loved it! However, I'm not sure if I have a great chance of getting in. I'm a Junior in highschool, about to become a senior.

I currently have about a 3.8-3.9 unweighted GPA, and over a 4.0 weighted.
I'll most likely be ranked top 10.
I've taken 3 AP classes and am enrolled in mostly all GT and honors classes.
I've played four years of Field Hockey.
I'm highly involved with the Drama department.
I am the vice president of my schools National Honor Society.
I volunteer frequently and I got a 1870 on my SATs.

What do you guys think? Do I have a fairly good chance of getting in or not?

What is the breakdown on your SAT scores? An 1870 is not going to impress at Hamilton (or any of the better schools), but it might not kill you either. Your GPA is obviously excellent, but it doesn’t seem to correlate with your SAT or class rank. How competitive is your high school?
What about other test scores (ACT, Subject Tests, APs)? What three AP classes have you taken (and, again, how did you do on the tests)? What will your senior year curriculum be? What part of the country are you from?

Leverage your field hockey experience. It helped my daughter with similar stats to yours.

Trying to raise your SAT scores would be helpful. The fact of the matter is that admissions is tricky business. No one is a shoe-in for any school based on statistics (I know first hand). Hamilton focuses on writing, so having very strong writing skills is a must. There is a written submission required for the application. Make sure that you are involved in community service, and other leadership activities that you actually enjoy and aren’t doing for the sake of getting into colleges. See if you can get the president position of NHS. Study hard and really showing who you are to the colleges you apply to (and not who you think they want you to be) is beneficial. Especially with schools (like Hamilton) which strive for a diverse campus. Good luck!

You should really try to raise those standardized scores. They really don’t seem to agree with your GPA and rank. Is your HS really competitive? No matter what, really try to arrange for an interview, be it with an alum in your area or on campus. Hamilton puts a lot of emphasis on these. In fact, I think it’s why I got in. Anyhow, best of luck! Hopefully I’ll be seeing you on the Hill in the next few years!
