Do I have some condition?

I have obessive spurts over subjects ranging from the very broad to the really abstract. For a few months I might be obsessed with shoes to the point that I can identify where your shoes were made just by smelling them (honestly the shoe collecting market is multi-billions). The next week I’m obsessed with Roman poetry or the Dutch language. It’s not a rare thing to be a renaissance man, but I’ve never met anyone like myself who cannot have a normal conversation without mentioning the subject of the month twice every 10 minutes. I’ll stay up long hours without eating or drinking just thinking about something or absorbing information, it’s to the point where I just don’t listen to people when they are talking. I’ve stolen or walked hours to accomplish it. Maybe it is ADHD but my mother thinks conservatively and just says that I’m “special” - she still thinks ADHD is a hoax. It’s just I’m always thinking about something. I visualize my mind as train tracks with people jumping between them. I cannot really have a conversation as I tend to step over lines and I just do not know when to stop. School has suffered as a result but now I’m really starting to improve as my new obsession are these forums and college. I’m sure it will end though.I just really need some objective guidance. I’ve had pyschiatrists but I always become really angry with them when they just assume I’m a sociopath or see me as some sort of bad kid. This is not a subtle brag or any other wrong interpretation. It’s not like I’m doing calculus in my head all the time (I wish haha). I can also become very upset when a teacher disputes something I say that I know to be correct to the point I might cry or hyperventilate. When I write I repeat words or sentences too. Please help. I’ve already been gifted tested 4 times but I either am on the threshold as I miss most math problems or I am really high. Once again I’m not trying to brag or anything I just want the help I’ve never gotten before.

You need professional testing. We can’t diagnose over the internet. You might have a form of OCD, be on the autism scale, or just have really poor impulse control that might get better as you get older. I honestly don’t see ADHD in your examples, but there are many other possible diagnoses. I don’t know if your mom would consider testing for other conditions. Maybe you could talk to your GC, and see if they can talk to your mom.

Thanks for the reply

Definitely do not take this as a diagnosis because as the other commenter said, we can’t diagnose you, but that said, what you describe sort of reminds me of hypomania/mania. Here’s some symptoms I found online:

Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity
Decreased need for sleep (e.g., feels rested after only 3 hours of sleep)
More talkative than usual or pressure to keep talking
Flight of ideas or subjective experience that thoughts are racing
Distractibility (e.g., attention too easily drawn to unimportant or irrelevant external stimuli)
Increase in goal-directed activity (either socially, at work or school, or sexually) or psychomotor agitation
Excessive involvement in pleasurable activities that have a high potential for painful consequences (e.g., the person engages in unrestrained buying sprees, sexual indiscretions, or foolish business investments)

Just something to check out. I agree with intparent’s advice.

It sure sounds like you would benefit from a comprehensive evaluation where a child/adolescent psychiatrist, psychologist, and possibly a speech/language pathologist can collaborate. Until you get an accurate diagnosis, it will be difficult to find the right treatment. It sounds like your mental experience is getting increasingly disturbing to you. It would be in your best interest to have it assessed. Please talk to your guidance counselor or find out if your school has a school psychologist. Perhaps one of them can advise your mom. Please seek help immediately if you develop feelings about hurting yourself.

Once again, not an official diagnosis, just something to look at.
I am a student with Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of High Functioning Autism. What you are describing is very similar to many experiences I have had. I would recommend you get tested for Autism, just to see. If you have an official diagnosis, there are many things your school, as well as psychiatrists can do to help (many larger high schools have an Autism specialist that can help).

Is the OP still reading this?

You’re asking for a dime-store evaluation on a website?
You need to be evaluated by a team of professionals. If you currently attend a school, you can ask for a full evaluation. Self-diagnosing does not help.
