I’m registered to take the SAT in January (class of 2018 here).
Lots of my friends are taking both the SAT and the ACT, and this seems popular here on CC. However, I don’t know if I SHOULD take the ACT. I’ve taken the old SAT in seventh grade as a part of a talent identification program, and I’ve taken the PSAT twice, and I will once again in November. I’m really comfortable with the format of the SAT…not the new one, but I don’t think the change will be too huge, from what I’ve read.
I want to take the SAT once after school ends, possibly the June sitting. I feel like I will be able to score higher if I devote my life to the SAT, instead of juggling two tests. However, what IF I am better suited for the ACT? I’m really split.
what did you get for the PSAT? and what is your target score? have you done a practice test for ACT? My kid prep for SAT in the summer, but took ACT without too much prep and got 32 in September…
@annamom As a sophmore, I scored a 1330 on the PSAT. It said that if I took the SAT that day, that would have been my score…it seems a little low. I haven’t taken an ACT practice test but I have looked over it. When did your kid take the ACT?
You don’t HAVE to take the ACT but it’s frequently recommended because some students do better on one or the other test. You’re moderating your risk by taking different tests.
@kwazi33772 My kid took the ACT last month…you asked strangers on a What If scenario but not taking the first step to at least try a “practice test”… there are past real ACT tests available, just google and give it a try…how do we know whether you are better suited for ACT?
Do a STRICKLY timed ACT practice test at home. You can decide from there. Go to the library and borrow he Red Book (5 practice tests and answers). You can also find full practice tests online and print them out. Get the most recent one you can find. Cost = zero.
