Do I match well with Cornell CALS Major???

Hey everyone,

I’m applying to biometry and stats at Cornell CALS, which really looks for fit in your major. They want to see your participate in activities related to your major selected. So I’d like to know whether I fit.

Most of my EC’s are music and cultural stuff; however, I have taken AP Calc BC and AP Bio, am on the math team, got a 36 on ACT Math, i am self studying Stats, plus i have taken so many classes in Big Data and Computation…Hadoop 101, Fundamentals, and am currently pursuing a Genomic Data Science and Statistics specialization at Johns Hopkins.

Will these ECs suffice for such a major? Ik i’m more of a music guy, but I’m fascinated by this major (it’s not really offered anywhere else) and I really want to do this. Do I fit well?

I’m Indian male, 3.86 GPA, Good Test Scores, and ECs are as listed above.

I think you fit well. But of course, most of us here are not admissions officers and can’t really accurately judge you. If anything, you might want to focus your app on the stat and bio stuff. Put them first, write about them in the supplement, etc.

Music is a fun thing, and I think if you spend a lot of time on it, you should include it. It’s just that if it’s overshadowing your other major-relevant ECs, you should reduce how much you put on.

Good luck!
