I just found out the max semester units you can transfer with are 70. I was on track to have around 90 before transferring, and finishing all the general ed and most of my pre reqs. Now i found out you can only have 70…
So what should i do right now? Im gonna end up with 2/3 of my pre reqs completed and 3/4 of my general ed completed if i stop at 70 units.
Is it normal to transfer to a UC or Cal state like this?
If you have more then 70, you still get subject credit to fulfill major requirements or general education for all courses taken. It is only for units counted to the 120 needed to graduate that your CC units are capped at 70 on transfer to UC or CSU.
You’re coming from a CC?
If so, you’re fine. If all of your units are from a CC (or are lower-div), then you’re fine (at LEAST for UC’s, I don’t know about CSU’s). They will only grant you 70 semester units, but you can take as many CC classes as you’d like.
Complete your GE & prerequisites.
It’s ok they will only count the units you need and a few extras that fill other requirements. Don’t trip, carry on.
That’s the downside, especially if you have no idea where you’ll actually end up you just have to keep taking classes to cover as much as possible. Many CC students will fullfill the general ed first (because its more or less universal) then try to fulfill as many program requirements as possible. Its not uncommon to have taken 90+ units by the time you actually transfer, especially if there’s not a lot of overlap between requirements from school to school. Many courses you take may end up being a waste of you get into one place over another, but that’s just a chance you have to take… the joys of CC!
You’re at a CCC? You’re fine. As noted above, they just transfer 70 units and the rest are applied as subject credit, as applicable. Don’t worry! B-)
