I will have completed all of my general education foundation and distribution courses at Montgomery College by the end of this semester (I’m a Comp sci major), but I am also dropping the Computer Science II class there since Comp Sci classes do not transfer to UMD. However, if I drop this class it will mean that I will not be able to complete an AA in Computer Science at MC before transferring.
My mom seems to think that you need to have completed the AA before transferring to College Park to fulfill the general education requirements (CORE?) or I’ll have to re-take Gen ed classes to fulfill the general education requirements. Almost all of my classes that I’ve taken at Montgomery College I know transfer (I used the class transfer checker tool), so that doesn’t really make any sense.
Can anyone enlighten me on if I need to get an AA before I transfer to College Park? I’m also in the MTAP program if that makes any difference. Thank you.
I am wondering the same thing. We have a different situation. My son applied to UMD and did not get accepted. He is graduating high school in June. I want to know what their selection criteria is for transfer students. Do they still look at essays, ACT scores, high school transcripts, what are the minimum credits required to transfer, etc. My son desperately wants to go there. He just applied to UMBC so we will see what happens.
@jpathley4 - Have you re-read the MTAP information at MC’s website? The link should be here: http://cms.montgomerycollege.edu/edu/plain.aspx?id=53023
When Happykid was at MC (AA 2012 then Towson BS 2014), Denise Graves was the Transfer Counselor. I don’t know if she still is in charge of transfers, but I did find her at the MC website. http://cms.montgomerycollege.edu/edu/directorydetail.aspx?index=470
See her first. She should have good information for you.
Wishing you all the best!
You do not need to complete your AA degree so transfer to UMD. I am a comp sci major also, and I only take math, science, english and other general education that transfer to UMD. If you have completed english 102 and cal 1 and or 2, and have over 30 credits and a 3.0 gap overall, then apply to UMD asap
