Do I need to go through the NCAA Clearinghouse before I talk to coaches?

Im a junior in high school, and am looking at hopefully swimming at a D2 college. Do I need to go through the NCAA Clearinghouse before I go on a college visit and talk to the coaches?

No, but you should create your account now. It takes a long time for them to process everything and your school needs to send your transcript and you need to send your ACT/SAT scores. A couple coaches we talked to wouldn’t talk to us before DD had her clearinghouse number though.

No but the ClearingHouse is not called the NCAA Eligibility Center: [NCAA Eligibility Center](http://web1.ncaa.org/ECWR2/NCAA_EMS/NCAA.jsp)

Good Luck!

katieswims - I agree with SteveMA. This should be one of the first things you do in the process. It shows the coaches you are serious, and it is one of the first actions (sending transcripts) you will take to follow up with any interested coach. The last thing you want is an interested coach that you have to put on hold because you aren’t able to send transcipts. Good luck.

I think both coaches and the NCAA want you to only send your transcript at the end of Junior year. However, you can register with the eligibility center before that. Some of the college recruiting questionaire forms ask you for your NCAA number so it is nice to have that done and, as the others state, show you are serious.
