I took the ACT a few months ago through my school and got a score that I'm happy with. However, the letter they sent me in the mail with the details about my ACT score was thrown away by my parents (I don't think they realized what it was). I went to the ACT website and they said to get a code from a guidance counselor and my information would be there, so I went to the guidance counselor, got my code, and went back to the website, and it said I had not taken the ACT yet, but I have. I have no idea how to get my ACT information and I'm starting to really freak out, because Common App started today! Do I have to retake the ACT? Or should I just tell colleges I didn't take the ACT?

I am going to assume from your post that your school uses the ACT as part of their state testing and so rather than registering for a national exam date, you registered through school and took the test on a different date. Correct?

If your school uses Naviance, then there should be some place within Naviance where the scores are reported. That said, it can take some time for the schools to load the information online. As for the ACTStudent web site - it sounds like you didn’t have an account set up with them prior to taking the test and so your school based registration is not linked up to the ACTStudent web site. Its as if there are two data buckets that can’t communicate (yet).

I understand the stress but cannot believe there is any reason to have to retake the test given that your school should have a record of the results. Find out which administrators are at school over the summer since guidance counselors are probably not working this time of year. Hopefully the administrator with responsibility for guidance at your school is available and can help you work through this issue. If not - I am sure someone there will be able to tell you what you need to do and when you might be able to reach the right person. As an alternative - contact ACT and see if they can help you.

In the interim - take a deep breath, stay calm and work on your applications until the people capable of solving the issue are available.

@Poohbah You’re correct, the ACT is part of state testing. Our school doesn’t use Naviance (although I wish we did). I’m sorry this may have sounded ridiculous I’m just stressed x10 right now. Thank you so much for your answer, it definitely calmed me down quite a bit. I’ll be contacting the ACT first thing Monday morning.
