Do I need to take the ACT essay if I already took the SAT essay?

Hiya!
So I took the SAT with the essay in April, and I did pretty good, except for the R/W section, so I was planning to retake the SAT, but long story short, I had to end up retaking the SAT subject tests in November, so I won’t have another chance to retake the SAT. So instead, I’ve chosen to take the ACT, and I signed up without the essay. Was that a mistake?

Most college don’t care if you take the essay. Mostly likely your fine. Just check with the schools that you are interested in if they require it.

It will only be a problem if the college(s) you are applying require the essay, then they will not accept the ACT score without it. Check the testing requirements for all the schools of interest.

no.

As far as I know, you can’t pick and choose your best performance on sections between different exams (just like you can’t expect a college to take the math section from an ACT and the R/W section from a SAT). If colleges you are applying to want to see a essay score and you wan to take the ACT then you should take the ACT with the essay. The good news is that many colleges don’t require the essay section. See what each school you plan to apply to requries.
