Do I need to take the placement test for physics?

I am an incoming freshman at Northwestern (McCormick). Do I need to take the on-campus physics placement test? I did not take AP physics and am planning on going into chemical engineering.

To get a REAL answer, email or call NU.

I can tell you anecdotes… I have 2 kids, one a ChemE grad from McCormick, the other just finishing up Freshman year as a ChemE at McCormick. One kid did not take AP Physics, the other got a 5 on AP physics A, B & C.

They are both ok, so there you go. A true story, BUT… YOUR CORRECT ANSWER IS ALWAYS TO CONTACT THE SCHOOL!

Thanks. I will likely contact the school. Just out of curiosity, did your children take the placement exam?

sammas - I have no idea if either or both kids took a physics placement exam… the kids pretty much did it on their own. I know they both did take some placement exams. Some at home on the pc, and some after they got to school. But if NU is telling you to take a placement exam, I would suggest you follow their instructions.

BTW - From talking to the kids I think that physics is more important to ChemE than Chemistry…

Sammas, this is what the Northwestern page is for on Facebook. People there can answer your question. Or you could check the Purple Prep book that talks about the placement tests. This definitely isn’t somewhere people will probably know your answer.
