Placement Tests (McCormick)

Hey guys,

I'm attending Northwestern in the fall and I don't know how credits from AP tests work and if we can skip the freshman intro classes.

So, I got a 5 in AP Chem. Does this mean I pass the basic science requirement? (I'm a McCormick student) Or do I have to take orgo chem? I heard its better to take chem 171 and take the aleks and chemistry placement than do orgo frosh year.

Also, I received a 5 for AP Chinese. It says I receive 2 credits for Chinese 2x, but do I also need to do placement tests for that as well?

And does anyone know how hard is the math placement tests for mccormick students? I already took Calc BC and multivariable.. but, I haven't touched BC over an year since my school teaches linear algebra and discrete. I'm a little worried :(

Any input would be great!

5 on AP Chem is automatic placement in orgo. But you could always choose to take accelerated general chem. Some of my high school teachers recommended this because of the much needed lab experience that comes with first year chemistry. I’m still not sure what I am going to do.

I think you pass the chemistry requirement. Otherwise, I’d take chem171 unless you really want to see what all that reputation related to NU orgo is about (assuming you are not a chemE or BME…major that needs orgo). ;)
