Do I qualify for in state?

I’m an international student and I’m currently in 10th grade. If I moved to NC for my junior and senior year, would I qualify for in state tuition?
I’m planning on applying to UNC Chapel Hill.
Also, what about Quest Bridge and National Merit Scholarships?

Google the instate elegiblity rules for NC.

National Merit & Questbridge are s only for US cirizens/PRs.

If your parents move to NC, & set up their life there- drivers license, home, etc., yes. If you are an emancipated minor, possibly. Otherwise (say you go live with a friend or relative), almost certainly not.

National Merit Scholarships are for US citizens and legal permanent residents. What is your immigration status?

Here are the full rules: http://www.northcarolina.edu/sites/default/files/documents/state_residence_classification_manual.pdf

My understanding in a nutshell: if you are in the country on a student visa (e.g. F-1 or J-1), you won’t be eligible for in-state tuition rates because your visa status precludes you from establishing a domicile in the US. If you have a visa that allows for immigration intent (e.g. E-, H-, or L- work visas or refugee status), keep reading. It appears that minors under the age of 19 and students under the age of 24 are generally presumed to have the same domicile as their parents. Exceptions are made for emancipated minors, minors having lived with another adult relative for at least 5 years, and financially independent adult students.

Conclusion: if your family is relocating to North Carolina (most likely on a work visa), you would have a good shot at qualifying for in-state tuition rates. If you arrive by yourself (and e.g. attend a boarding school), you probably won’t.

Most likely, you are not eligible for instate.

BTW @GMTplus7 QB do let international students apply to its program(both College Prep and National college match)…or at least that’s how it was for me when I applied. Has they changed the rules?
