Do I Qualify for National Buckeye Scolarship?

I could really use that money :)

I used to be a huge slacker. I didn’t do homework , never studied for tests, did nothing after school…It was a disaster. Then about halfway through my sophomore year I realized that what I was doing was going to hurt me in the long run. From that point on I never recieved below a B. However, the damage had alraedy done,as my freshman year GPA was pretty low and my sophomore year GPA was just ok. Junior year I had a huge improvement and really did as well as I know I can. This year I’m doing well so far as well.

So here are my stats, and tell me what you think

Freshman year: 2.78 GPA
Sophomore Year: 3.14 GPA (Honors English)
Junior Year: 3.72 GPA (AP Gov, Honors English, History, Business classes.)

Cumulative GPA: 3.23

School doesn’t rank.

I go to a top 10 school in NJ, and we typically do very well at most colleges (Northern Highlands)

took SAT’s Three times:
First time: 610 Math, 620 Reading, 640 Writing 1870 total.
Second time: 610 Math , 620 Reading, 680 writing, 1910 total.
took a third time in oct, it was trash (580M, 640 CR, 650 W ) improved my superscore up to 1930 total, 1250 2 section.

bump, im in same situation with SAT’s:

I had similar SAT and slightly lower GPA (high school) but national level sports medal, trophy etc. I was waitlisted till mid April.

The following might offer some insight:

BTW - I was just accepted into Penn State University about a week ago.

For National Buckey you have to be both in the top 40% of your h.s. class and have at least a 1260 in your M & CR sections of the SAT. If I understood your post correctly your highest SAT is 1250 so that means you would not qualify. However there are a lot of other scholarships so keep on working hard and talk to admissions. One of the other scholarships might become available to you.

are they really that picky about 10 SAT points

Yes…really…

Ohio State does not mix sub-scores from multiple tests. So you are still 30 points under.

Does anyone know why colleges only use M&R? Wouldn’t it be nice if they used the two sections you were strongest in!

When are these presented

I was initially under the impression that the Buckeye Scholarship covered the difference between IS and OOS tuition, but apparently I was incorrect. IS tuition and fees are listed as $9,420 and OOS shows $23,604. The value of the Buckeye according to the Tuition and Fees page is $7200 ($8700 according to the Scholarships page). In either case, OOS students still have to make up at least a $5500-ish difference…unless I’m misreading something. Anyone know anything different about the Buckeye that I’m missing?

Take the ACT and try to get a 28. It doesn’t sound like you’re gonna improve to a 1260 on the SAT, and a lot of people do better on one test or the other.

Is Ohio State generous with the National Buckeye Scholarship? I have a 1270 SAT (obv not much higher than the minimum)

Anyone hear back about these yet?

sevenout…D1 got a letter in the mail on Monday offering her the Maximus scholarship for $3000/yr and the National Buckeye for $8700/yr. Good Luck to you!!

just retook the SAT’s in Dec. and got a 1360, hello national buckeye! so mad I missed the deadline for the dec. 1 scholarships.

are they buckeye scholarship automatic if you meet the minimun requirements or is there a limted amount

i have a 3.90 weighted gpa and 1360 sat…what are my chances? i really love osu but oos tuition is a buzz kill for me…

Sevenout … I called about the National Buckeye Scholarship for OOS students & was told they are not automatic. OSU has a minimum score requirement to make you “eligible”. I hope they give it to everyone who meets the minimum score.

D received the same deal that Wolverine posted above, $3000 plus $8700. Unfortunately, it’s still out-of-reach financially, considering OOS tuition is about $24,000.
