Do I stand a chance?

I am currently a junior and I go to a charter school where I just received a B in honors Spanish 5/6. I am totally crushed about this because I had a great upward trend going. My freshman year I had very little motivation to do well in school and was very focused on just extra circulars which provided for a very low GPA. But, the summer before sophomore year I fell in love with Brown and really reevaluated my priorities. I only got one B sophomore year and I had straight A’s for all my classes last term. So, with my past rocky grades, I am worried that this B will look horrible. Realistically, do I still have a chance?

Oh, and just fyi, I am taking the SAT in June and have been scoring in the 2100-2200 range, and I have strong extracurricular activities. Thanks for your input!

It isn’t ever one grade that makes a difference, I don’t think. It is more about presenting an application that shows an overall strong record and all the right things that make an impression, the essays, your letters of rec, and all the things you do that show what a dynamic person you are.

Your overall culm GPA will be important in creating a list of target colleges. But to focus on one-two schools which you “love” isn’t wise. To be frank, the features there are present in many colleges. Plus there’s affordability to consider. It’s nice that Brown motivated you – but consider that the destination isn’t Brown but the best expression of you. Push fwd, kill the SATs/ACTs. Good luck to you

^^well put

Thank you for the advice!
