So in my freshman year I was lazy and ended up with an unweighted gpa of 3.2 and a weighted of 4.2. I was in all honors courses except math where I had academic algebra 1 and honors geometry. My class ranking was 160/399. I am currently in all honors and AP social studies for my sophomore year. I am expecting to get a 3.8 unweighted gpa for my sophomore year. My goal is to go to a nice college like George Washington(which is also where my sister goes) or University of Texas at Austin. Do I still have a good chance of getting into schools like them?
Hey! Welcome to CC.
A 3.8 unweighted is nothing to fear over.
Rocking your junior and senior year will only raise that up to a 3.9-ish.
Since you’re so young in HS, reach out to clubs, volunteer work, and start studying that ACT or SAT over the summer. Colleges tend to look at all of a college application. They do not focus solely on GPA even if it does give an acceptable representation of your academic performance.
Make sure you’re also aiming for high rigor courses. You don’t want to get a 3.9 UW GPA all in basic level courses. Take honors and AP, which im sure you do since you have a 4.2 weighted.
Good luck! You still have a long way to go!
