I'm a freshman going to be a sophomore and I currently go to a good IB school (ranked 35th best high school in America) with approximately 97% average. Only problem is that I haven't done any extra curricular activities during the year. If I don't do any extra curricular activities during this summer, but I start and commit to extra curricular activities from 10th to 12th grade, will I have a chance at getting Princeton University? (putting aside all the other factors such as SAT score, AP exams, essay, etc...) And can you give me some ideas of community service/ extra curricular activities I can do during this summer? Thanks :)

lol i didn’t really do anything any of my summers

But did you get accepted into Princeton? Or any of the Ivy universities?

Yes, you DO have a chance if you take action to participate in extracurriculars now or the start of Grade 10. Just look around your school (and also beyond) and see if there’s anything you are interested in. During the summer, you can go to a debate/music/science/math camp, if you are interested in those.

Just make sure to have a good balance of school, extracurriculars, and time for everything else in your life.

Yes you still “have a chance.” I did very little my freshman year. Pick a few activities you’re passionate about, and get involved this fall.

yup all of them except yale

i’ve found the key is intelligence – if you’re actually smart you’ll get in; if you’re only decently intelligent you won’t, even if you work your ass off. one of my friends is super lazy but damn smart, top 40% in his class at best, got into stanford and mit and nobody else did. he’s asian too.
