Do Ivy Leagues Compare Applicants?

i've heard things floating around this board about the Ivy League schools comparing whose applied where and who's applied here, etc... i was wondering if any of this was true. I am applying to several of the Ivies, so i would like to know what exactly happens.

thanks

no...they dont, i read that somewhere in the book...
they donot share the information of applicants....

do they know what other schools you are applying to?

no.......they are not allowed to share the info of applicants..

Well, think of it this way--if Yale or Harvard didn't (the SCEA schools--for example), how would they know that you didn't apply anywhere else early? If Y/H didn't compare, you could theoretically apply early to both and ignore the SC rule.

But they DO share their ED/EA admittees to see whether anyone cheated--I read somewhere in a book too.

Mm, my guidance counselor told me that schools aren't technically allowed to do any comparing under law... but they do anyways. I almost applied to Georgetown EA (my secure school--most of my schools are Ivies), just so I could get in somewhere, and then I figured I'd apply to Ivies regular--GC told me that if I did that, Yale/Harvard/etc would know and it'd kill my chances of getting in regular.

What? I'm pretty sure schools are busy enough during admission season without spending their time chatting with one another.

“What? I'm pretty sure schools are busy enough during admission season without spending their time chatting with one another.”

-Pretty much..... I highly doubt that schools are sharing information; not only is it illegal and unethical, but it would be a huge waste of time and energy.

ok so i'm getting confused here. some people are saying they are, some are saying they don't. is there any truth in this matter?
the fact is that i'm applying to 5 of the 8 ivies, minus brown and dartmouth and harvard (deferred, probably not going to be accepted) because they seem like good fits to me especially cornell and upenn which i've visited. i just don't want anything to jeopardize my chances.

there was a scandal a couple of years ago where a junior admissions officer at Princeton hacked into the Harvard (or Yale, I can't remember) admissions computer to compare applicants and see which ones applied to Harvard as well so they could specifically steal them. He was caught, and fired.

So no, schools don't share that type of information legally.

If you apply ED to more than one school, the problem isn't that the schools talk to each other but that your high school won't send your transcript to more than one school ED. They keep you honest.

Peer institution will let eachother know about SCEA and ED admits.

I've also had my ED interviewer ask me for the list of schools I was applying to. But you can kind of go around that question by giving a vague answer.
