Hi! I just took my ACT and I got a 34.. but I didn't do too well on the SAT.. Ive heard from some people that ivy leagues do have preference for the SAT over the ACT.. is that true? I test so much better on the ACT than the SAT and I don't really wanna take the SAT unless I have to..So yea..Do they have a preference?

No, I definitely don’t think they have a preference for the SAT! They test both tests as equal- I know many people who got into Ivies who only submitted the ACT. Congrats on your 34 by the way, that’s an amazing score!

thank you! and okay that was what I thought as well! Yay no more testing for me haha

SATs and ACTs are accepted at every college in the US. There is only one college that states a preference and that is in California, for the ACT. Send your ACT. Check to see if your school requires you to send all scores (some do).

All ivies have a policy of not favoring one test over the other (Princeton was the last holdout that dropped an SAT preference about 7 years ago). Some assert Yale, Columbia, Brown, and Penn actually treat the ACT as the better test because for all four of those you can meet the test requirements for admission by submitting only the ACT without submitting any subject tests. If you submit SAT to one of those, you must also submit two subject tests.

Everyone in my school seems to prefer the SAT over the ACT. I was hoping this didn’t mean that Ivies had a preference. What is a very good ACT score for Ivies? I’ve heard that 2250 + is good, 2300 + is preferred and 2350 + SAT score is really good for Ivies. What’s the ranges for ACT’s ?

I would say 32+ is good but 34+ is great for ACT! Ivies have plenty of people with below 32s, but to maximize your chances I would shoot for at least a 32-33.

Thanks for your input!

I agree with all the info up here, congrats on the 34. Really, all the Ivies (and any college for that matter, but particularly the Ivies) want to do and make themselves (so by extension, the students they accept) seem really good and academically challenging. So doing better on the ACT is the same as doing good on the SAT because ______ University can say “Our average ACT score is X” or “Our average SAT score is Y”
