Do James Madison or George Mason University offer debate scholarships?

Hi,

I’m a junior interested in applying to these colleges next year. I’ve been a successful policy debater, and have participated in TFA, Local Urban Leagues, and UIL tournaments. I’ve been honored with Speaker Awards and Team Placement. In terms of leadership, I’m currently a co-captain of my school’s team (I’m in charge of recruitment and communication of important dates).

In terms of community service, I continually assist my former middle school debate team in understanding the rudiments of argumentation, as well as serve as a judge for middle school tournaments. When I assist with my former middle school team, I assist the coach with certain administrative tasks, as well as assist the debaters in understanding the evidence provided.

With my experience, would I qualify for any existing debate scholarships offered at this college? What exactly is covered/not covered by the scholarship(s)?

Have you checked both schools’ web sites?

Hey shoutout fellow policy debater!

I think your best bet is to contact the Office of Admissions, and maybe also try the debate coaches at each school. Here are links for JMU: http://www.jmu.edu/debate/meet-the-coaches/index.shtml http://www.jmu.edu/debate/recruiting.shtml
