Do LACs (Liberal Arts Colleges) carry more weight when transferring to a University?

I once heard that Liberal Arts Colleges (LACs) carry more weight than CC (community college) alumni/graduates planning to move directly to a University. Is this true?

It could possibly be true because LAC graduates are more “well-rounded”. They offer more versatile programs, etc (list goes on). Some LACs are just as hard (in class/coursework difficulty) as Universities such as MIT (Harvey Mudd College, Swarthmore, etc.)

I’m a Liberal arts, STEM emphasis (still considered General studies though) major at the CC I currently attend right now.

I’m mainly thinking of transferring to a University because of their being more well-known than small LACs. However, there are many famous IT/Computer Science people that have graduated from LACs & become extremely wealthy.

Should I even consider a LAC as a transfer option from the CC I attend?

Just wondering. Thanks!!

Some LACs are among the most competitive schools in the country to gain admission to. Schools like Williams, Swarthmore, and on and on can be as difficult to get into as Harvard. There are some that are not the least bit competitive. So they run the gamut in the same way universities do. But most community colleges are not competitive. I think most are actually open enrollment.

If you want to study CS at a LAC, I’d recommend Harvey Mudd, Colgate, Swarthmore, Middlebury, and Williams as top choices, but CS is probably more attuned at big universities. Go for schools like UT Austin, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Institute of Technology
