Hey everyone, I am currently a sophmore attending high school in Canada. My question is whether low marks (Bs) in non-academic courses (art, gym, business) will affect my admissions GPA to Yale. I have low 80s in all non academic courses I was forced to take this year and last year (for example in grade 9 art I received an 81 (American B) ), however in my academic courses, such as math, science, history, and english, I am averaging well over a 95. Will low marks in NON-academic courses be held against me for admissions to Yale? Thanks.
No. In fact, a couple of Bs in academic courses will not “be held against” you. If Yale rejects you, it will likely not be the result of a couple of Bs.
Now, taking gym out of the equation, if the follow-up question is do art and business courses count “less” than math or history, I would posit that Yale, and its peers, want its applicants to do well in all their courses. Note though, Yale rejects 94% of applicants, many of whom had a 4.0/36/1600, and accepted some with lower states. Grades are but one part of the application package.
That said, calling a B a low mark strikes me as disingenuous. I’d suggest avoiding coming across like that in essays as it will not win you favors. Good luck.
Oh, and sadly, I need to deactivate your account, as this is your 4th user name. I previously deactivated your second and third ones.
