Do Many Parents Fund Graduate/Professional School?

Ok, this part I find annoying. But if you want to quietly spend daddy’s money and buy expensive things, that’s your business.

Btw that’s not really “ugly American”. That’s more like, um, “classless nouveau riche”.

NYU, I agree and if I were quite wealthy I would likely fund my kids more, all of med school etc. Though honestly, I think I would not tell them that and would wait until they graduated and repay any loans, letting them make the tough choices along the way and then repay student loans of all of them, but having given them the opportunity to own their decisions.

My H and I scrimped and saved and fully funded our 2 children’s private colleges. We had told them we wouldn’t fund their grad schools. However, when D went back for her MBA after 4 years of employment, we helped with her first year’s living expenses and she paid the rest using her savings, loans and merit aid. She accepted a job offer 6 months before graduation last May and has since repaid 20% of her loans already.

My son has been doing very well in his job and doesn’t think he’ll need grad school to enhance his career. He’s saved enough to pay for it if he does decide to go.

We are paying for UG completely. I am also funding D’s year in Atlanta including car. She just could not find a job here, and is just finding one there so she will be bankrolling herself soon.

She expects to pay for law school herself, and I paid for grad school myself, but if I can I will pay for some of it, as much as I can.

I won’t borrow or deny myself things the way I have been, but I will give her all I comfortably can.

DS is heading toward a funded grad program. He wants to get a PhD in Classics, and I don’t think anyone should pay for that!!! A funded program is perfect.
