Do medical school students go home less often during break?

In preclinical years, do most medical school students still go home (like in UG) during spring break or summer break?

DS will not come home during summer; he will go to Maine for some research-related activity (I do not know what it is.) Now he also mentions there is some chance that several of his classmates and he may go to Florida during spring break. He did not have any fun trips during any spring break in UG years. I think he will likely be very busy in the next few years. So, I would like to encourage him to join that trip. It only costs a slightly more to go there than to go home.

Talking about the "cost", it appears to me that, compared to college students, a higher percentage of medical school students have more discretionary money. (But there are fewer students who are from "filthy rich" or really elite families.) Aren't most medical students in debt?!

Not necessarily, it depends on their priorities and finances. I didn’t go home for breaks during pre-clinicals. I just stayed in my apartment and worked a research grant.

^ Thanks for the reply.

There is some advantage of living in an apartment instead of the dorm (DS lives in the dorm now.) There is no hassle of moving out of the dorm during summer break. Also, the parents could visit without worrying about interfering with the life of his classmates…

I do not know what living arrangement it will be for DS during summer. I think the school will kick all the students out of the dorm during summer? Or, at least there is a separate housing application process.
