Breaks?

Is it weird not to come home on breaks? I kind of feel badly about it, but...

Just opinions/stories/whatever.

No not really. I know a few people that went abroad, did an research internship etc. I'm staying home though :(

Nah, sometimes it's too expensive or students to go home.

It depends on your family and what break it is. If you're family is really close and everyone gets together over Christmas and it wouldn't be too huge a financial burden on your then you probably should go home, but if you're talking about spring break or something then no, theres really not a reason to go home if it would be difficult/if you don't want to. I only go home on breaks where there are major holidays, which basically means Christmas and Thanksgiving.

I haven't been home for a break since winter break freshman year, and that was only because my dorm closed over that break. Thanksgiving and Spring break I stayed at my school and worked but went home for like 2 days over Thanksgiving and one or two days over spring break, since I'm only an hour from home. In the summers I've gone home a couple times for a day or two, but not often. Sometimes my parents will stop by and we'll go to my brothers for a barbeque (he lives in the town where I go to school).

The only break I'm going home for is winter break, and that's because it's for such a long time. The other breaks I'm staying because of the time and money it takes to get back and forth from our house..

i go home for winter and spring. sometimes thanksgiving but we dont celebrate thanksgiving so it doesnt really matter.

i'm only gonna go home for the summer. too expensive to fly back and forth...

I'll come back home at x-mas, as it is a 4 week break. Spring break I'll likely meet up with my parents on a trip, but won't necessarily be going home

I don't normally. I come home for 2 or 3 days over christmas break, and a day or 2 over thanksgiving. Don't usually come home over spring break, and normally I'm taking classes during summer. Of course, my family only lives about an hour away so I see my mom about once a month or more anyway. The rest of my family I don't really care to see more than a few times a year anyway.

ETA: I should add that I live off-campus. When I lived in a dorm, I had to come home over breaks because the dorms closed.

My dorm closes during breaks. What am I suppose to do i can't/won't go home during the breaks?

Yeah, I was wondering that too.

I'd think there's the find a youth hostel, stay with a friend or go in a hotel option...

Hotel. I bet that really inconveniences internationals..

Well, I know at some universities including mine, there is an option for internationals for break housing. It's mostly limited to internationals (I think it's harder to get it if you're instate) at my university.

i spent 5 days at home this summer, couldn't be happier
