do my essays make me look like a "complainer" or bad luck?

Okay, I was just wondering if these essays will make me look sad/ and or I complain too much... I don't plan on writing these in a "woe is me" type way, but in a spophisticated, funny, and a touching way..

Personal Statement: I was going to write about being gay and dealing with my first-generation parents..

And for the supp question: "Talk about an event that you could not have done alone. :I'm going to talk about how my work came together when a very close friend/co-worker was killed by a drunk driver, and how we are raising a lot of money for the family..

Are these okay, or will they make me look "sad?"

it all depends on how you write the essay.
we can't tell from a simple topic.

well if you weren't sad about the co-worker, you would probably seem like some fake smiling robot.
I think as long as you, to borrow what the English teachers say, "explore" the topics rather than just making simple statements about hardship, they might work out OK.

'Nuff said - may the force be with you.

I think these are very honest things to write about (kudos to you!) and that you'll definitely know if you sound, ''woe is me,'' and if not, there are lots of adults/teachers you could always ask.
Best of luck to you!
