I was just curious if my grades would matter at all for my application to Tiisch.
Yes. When I toured NYU, the tour guide, who was a Tisch student, told us that the audition/portfolio was 50%, and your grades/essays/letters were the other 50% of your application. Grades matter less for Tisch kids and a really good audition or portfolio can make up for less than stellar grades, but only to an extent; your grades do matter.
Thank you to the person who posted the link to the admissions blog- that was really helpful. I have a question re: Tisch Drama. The blog mentions that admission committees are formed based on the schools, after the first read is completed by the regional counselor. Does anyone know if the Tisch auditors are a part of the Tisch admissions committee as well? Or do their audition notes just get passed along? I’ve always heard that the auditors have a big say in who gets in and who doesn’t, so was just wondering what the process was…
@meggysmom - the tisch faculty does the audition part- so they have power over who gets past that hurdle. Academics are considered and decided separately. So basically you have to,be accepted 2x. I have heard that the tisch people will go in and fight for a kids they want who didn’t clear the academic hurdle, but that is the exception, rather than the norm. In part, this is b/c tisch kids have to take more “normal” (non theater) classes than many other BFAs- and NYU wants to make sure kids can be successful there too
My dd and I spoke to a college rep at her HS college fair, who basically said the same thing at @toowonderful. I was actually surprised to hear that. Until that point, I didn’t have as much hope. But what I am wondering is, what do they consider a large academic hurdle? I know that’s a tough question to answer!
