or does a normal talented person also have a chance if she works hard?

the latter in my opinion

Everyone has a chance, but highly talented people have higher chances because who wins the race the fastest runner or the one who trained hard but isn’t the best?
Normal talented people is kind of an oxymoron, if you mean normal as in average grades (b’s and c’s) and a 1500 SAT probably not. If you mean normal as in not winning national and state competition yeah chances are goodish as long as you do other things your passionate about.

i mean people who have not an IQ of 130 but who are very intelligent anyway. im not albert einstein but i have good grades if i learn a lot, so would i have a chance?

Judging by the way you are typing, you either seem like a ■■■■■ or you have your expectations set too high. If you give us some of your “normal person” stats we can help you a bit more.

IQ means so little in the grand scheme of things. IQ is a measure of potential and nothing else. Having a high IQ makes a lot of things easier. It also makes things harder. Plenty of people with high IQ’s do terribly because they are lazy and know that it doesn’t matter. Many more do extraordinary things, but average people can do those things too they just are forced to work harder. Good grades is a subjective term. For me good grades are 100’s for my brother good grades are mid to high 80’s.

Everybody has a chance, but the more money/connections and the better the stats the better shot you have

i live in germany so we have a completely different system, but ok my average is 1,1 and in germany there are marks from 1-6.

Ok the ivy-league schools will look at everything. Since there are many people that have high grades, good recs, and great SAT scores the essay and ec’s are what make or break most candidates. A ‘normal’ person can have those.

in germany there are a lot of prejudices about the ivy-league… everybody thinks only high talented person who won many international science competitions could have a chance in the ivy-league :DD

Not necessarily but as an international your application has to be very good for them to take you because they don’t take as many internationals as US residents

yeah i know
