Hi! I got in to JHU ED, and I'm a little confused about their policy towards outside scholarships.
I believe it is that freshman year, scholarships do not subtract from financial aid. But any year after that, they do. Is this correct? And if so, does this mean that if you get a scholarship after freshman year they will subtract an amount equal to the scholarship or something proportional or what?
Any clarification would be appreciated, thanks!

no, it says on their page that all grant money is protected from reduction. so any outside scholarships you get should go towards replacing loans or work study funds. i was just looking up the same thing

I’m not sure that rlhowar1 is correct. My son’s grant aid was diminished in his second year by the amount of an outside scholarship. For freshman year, the outside scholarship worked to diminish the family contribution.

mowmoj was right, i talked to my financial aid counselor earlier today about it. all outside scholarships begin to cut into your grant award after your freshman year.

Is JHU the only school with such crappy policy? None of other schools subtract outside scholarships. Anyway, I want to ask how the process of reimbursing funds works. because the financial office likes to ignore emails.
