Do parents attend the Freshman House dinner on move-in day?

And if so, are siblings allowed and what is the attire?

From what I remember, parents and siblings are free to attend. It is a pretty casual event; it is outside under these big tents they set up, and they usually have some wraps (like sandwich wraps) and salad as the dinner and you serve yourself. There’s no assigned seating or anything. The RA’s and the head of the houses give some short speeches too.

Many of the parents had left by that time however. It’s kind of the first chance to meet and talk to your hallmates/roommate without your parents there.

It’s really just personal preference. I would say that maybe 40-50% of parents stayed for the dinner.

Oh ok, got it. Thanks!

We stayed for dinner… but we had girls, who took a LONG time to get their rooms ready. By the time we had moved everything in, gone to Target, put up decorations, etc. It was dinner time. I was happy to have a chance to sit down, have a meal and then say goodbye. I had a good friend (and fellow CC mom whose child was moving in same dorm, same day) and we were happy to sit down together and chat about the day. I think we went to the Deans house for refreshments in the afternoon as well.

We also stayed for dinner and went to the Dean’s house. Families are definitely invited. After dinner, there are house meetings and only resident are invited. Families are to leave after dinner. They can return on Sunday morning for a continential breakfast.
