Do People Really Like Giving?

I know that saying "It is better to give than to receive" but is it really true? Do you like giving? Especially to poor people, like homeless to people? What do you think of them.

Yes, and it’s the right thing to do.

The poor/homeless people? That society has failed them.

^ Exactly that.

Freely ye received, freely give.

I wouldn’t say I LIKE it…

Yes, it makes people feel better about themselves. Because, you know, those quarters that you tossed the way of the family of homeless people justifies the $1500 TV you just bought for your bathroom. :D

I donate rice from Free Rice. Does that count?

Theoretically. Realistically, most people feel that it is better to give some of what you recieve than to keep all of it.

Yes, helping people is always nice.

I think it’s usually best not to give money to homeless people, since a lot of them do bad stuff with it. But it’s good to help them any other way you can.

Well, I know from personal experience that a lot of them are lazy bums. But not ALL of them are. I try to assume non-bum without a reason to do otherwise.

Really? So if I go snort some coke, become addicted, sell my sister into prostitution to pay for coke, and end up homeless, it’s because society failed me?

^ Oh course! It didn’t come and stop you before you could do those things. And it didn’t see that you were conditioned from birth not to do them.

False. They failed themselves.

Absolutely. It’s a different type of happiness it gives you. Something fuzzy inside, lol, or at least being satisfied intrinsically. I volunteer regularly at a homeless shelter soup kitchen and being able to work in person with the homeless, abused, etc. is really rewarding inside

^god failed themlol

Where is the love? Who cares if they failed themselves?

“The measure of a civilization is how it treats its weakest members”

^ Which is why I cannot ever support the pro-choice movement.

^^ The love is why people help drug addicts even though they don’t deserve it. But you aren’t helping someone if all you do is enable them to do more harm to themselves.

I misinterpreted what this thread was about. :)

Drug addicts need love too. By loving them, how am I feeding their addiction?

Totally the average poor person.

But yes.

^^ depends on what you would be doing by “loving them”

Is anyone suggesting not loving them?
