Do Perkins loans count towards your loan limit?

I recently received an email from the FA office of one of my grad schools that said I am in excess of my Federal loan limits. The only way this could be would be if my Perkins loans count in that total. I will contact the FA office, but I wanted to check here first.

This is the message that comes up: Based upon data provided by the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) and your reported grade level, it has been determined that you have received loans in excess of the Federal loan limits.

I am a senior.

My total loans are:
Subsidized Direct Loans: $20,652
Perkins Loans: $3,130

I thought the total subsidized loans for undergrad was $23k.

Does this seem right or is the school in error?

Thanks!

No, Perkins loans do not count in the aggregate loan limit.

Go to [National Student Loan Data System for Students](http://www.nslds.ed.gov) and look at your loans. Is your servicer ACS? I will bet it is. Look at each loan period. Is the total of any of your loan periods in excess of the annual limit - or do you show two of the same awards in the same loan period? I just saw this with a prospective student yesterday - his loans for 08-09 were incorrectly reported, and there were 2 sub and 2 unsub awards for the same loan period - in excess of annual limits. It is an error on the part of the servicer. Let me know what you find (you can PM me) - I will give you advice.

I didn’t think they did. I pm’ed you.
