Do top New England Prep schools (specifically Hotchkiss, Loomis Chaffee, and Andover) have athletic recruitment like in college whereby if a coach would like you to play a certain sport for his team, your chances of being accepted is significantly increased?

A friend of mine's daughter received an e-mail from the coaches of those three schools saying that they would like the daughter to swim for them. Does this mean that the coach will speak with the admissions committee and help her in her admissions?

I'm not sure if asking the coach this question directly is appropriate.

I know at a few schools they asked when we scheduled an interview if there was any specific interest in academics or athletics, and they try to set up a meeting with someone from that department/sport. I’m sure the coaches would like to get students to be on their teams. I have no idea about how that works with the admission process. Hopefully someone else can give you more information.

@mariam,
Yes, the top schools do have athletic recruitment. And, yes, being an exceptional athlete will significantly increase the chance of admission. You need to contact the coach and be prepared to provide supporting documentation: athletic stats, video, recommendations.
