Do professors look at the facebook profiles of students?

I know it's best to assume that they do, but in any case, do you have any stories of this happening?

I personally think they have better things to do with their time like their research, unless their field is a fluffy science.

Would they really change your grade or something because of it anyway? darkdream is right. Your Facebook page is probably the last thing they care to be looking at.

If your profile’s on private and you are not friends with any of them, then you don’t have anything to worry about :)

Mine goes through to view all 900 of his students’ Facebook pages each semester.

Haha, as if. They have MUCH better things to do with their time.

Maybe there is at least one creeper out there looking through people’s profiles. Especially since they have the roster at hand. Haven’t heard any stories though. That would be creepy 0.o

Why would you assume that a professor checks your Facebook page? And why are you worried about it?

Professors usually have better things to do than stalk your facebook, and considering about 90% wont even remember your name after the class is done.

So what if they do?

lol they might if you ask to, say, do research with them?

and some professors are somewhat curious about their students.

Adjust the privacy settings so they cannot peek.

yes they do, my dad is a professor and he likes to look up his future students over the summer before schools starts so he can connect names with faces. He doesn’t have a fb of his own though so he usually gives me his roster and asks me to pull up their profile. Obviously not every professor does this, but always good to be wary. One student had pictures of himself in the school’s undie run and my dad brought it up in class.

Good point, but that’s still a little weird.

You should know by now that Facebook pages are basically “public.” Your employer can request to see your Facebook page, I’ve heard, so it’s not “private.” But really, most professors would rather do something else than look at their students’ Facebook pages. Anyways, if your profile picture is one of you drinking vodka with a dazzled expression, or, one that shows you’ve taken a picture with two strippers in skimpy looking clothes, you should probably change it, if not, I wouldn’t really worry.
