do sat scores correspond with college gpa

Do decent SAT scores mean decent GPA in college. My overall high school GPa was a 4.45 and my Act score was a 27 and sat was around 1800. Im attending uc irvine this year and i want to know if sat's predict college sucess.

Supposedly they do, but I personally don't believe that. Some people are just bad at standardized tests. If you know how to study and are interested in your classes, you'll be fine. If you spent all of high school behind the dumpsters smoking instead of going to class, and don't know much about the concept of homework, you might not do so well.

<a href="http://www.fairtest.org/facts/satvalidity.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.fairtest.org/facts/satvalidity.html</a></p>

There's some info about the predictive power of the SAT, from FairTest.

"...high school grades alone do a better job..."

"Validity research at individual institutions illustrates the weak predictive ability of the SAT."

"Researchers found that the SAT I was by far the weakest predictor..."

But I don't think anyone truly expects them to indicate success at college anymore, anyway. The SAT is very important for admissions, and it's one of the few (if not the only) standardized part of the admissions process, but it doesn't go far beyond that, in my opinion.

Depends. Most people work hard on the SAT, but they may be lazy during school. If they are relatively diligent in their schoolwork, the SAT is an excellent predictor. In most of these surveys, there are a lot of good high school students that got screwed up in college, drugs, alcohol, and laziness. That is why you have to disregard almost all of the criticism about how the SAT does not predict your grades well.

You cannot imagine how many multiple-choice tests in the same style as SAT you will be getting in college, on an ubdergrad level. The best predictor is a combination of gpa and SAT scores (like AI, for example). Verbal score is very important because it measures your aility to comprehend what you read, which is important not only in humanities, but in sciences as well. Verbal score, for example, is rather good indicator in chemistry (yes, all these word problems...).

To a limited extent. Schools which have gone test-optional show categorically however that qualified applicants, test scores aside aside (their test scores would normally be lower than those who submitted test scores) do just as well academically and GPA wise once admitted. See: Bates case study.

I think SAT predicts your abilities well. Whether you use your ability to do well in the academics is totally up to you. A person may be able, but unwilling to put in the required effort.

Further, given the fact that statistically speaking, individual scores on the SAT can vary wildly +/- over individual testings, the SAT only goes so far as a predictive indicator of future academic success.

I was accepted as an out of state student but right now to save money, im attending unlv and so far with the classes taken im maintaing a 4.0 GPA. Yes, i believe that the SAT does predict college GPA at some extent, however anyone can get a 4.0 as long as they work their ass off.
