Do schools process the CSS Profile/FASFA for students they won't admit?

Hello everyone,

This week is the week before decisions at my number one school (I’m a transfer student) and they just requested tax form documents to verify my income status. Could this indicate acceptance? After this happened in the applicant portal I clicked view aid status which previously stated, “No Financial Aid Info Found” now to “Inquiry Access Denied.” I could be reaching here but found it interesting, please let me know what you think!

No, it doesn’t mean acceptance.

If the school is need-blind then the financial aid office usually works independently of the admissions office, and they need to be prepared ahead of decision time. They can’t do their jobs if they simply don’t look at files until admission decisions are in, because then the college wouldn’t be able to prepare a financial aid award at the time of admissions. It wouldn’t be good business if students had to wait for weeks after their admission in order to know what their awards were.

If the school is need-aware, then they may take degree of need into consideration when making an admissions decision, and the financial aid office would need to be ready to provide that information when asked. Some schools that are nee-blind for freshman admission are need-aware for transfer admission.

It should not be surprising that FA is processed in parallel with admissions. Then when admissions is done, the offers can go out with FA.

@calmom @ucbalumnus Every applicant accepted had inquiry access denied! Luckily I was one of them
