i don't think so, but for top 5 schools, i guess you need at least an 8 out of 9, unless you have some major hook (URM, national award, etc.)

damn, the highest i can get is a 6 with a 1540 on the next sat

wish me luck

how much will being a 6 hurt my chances to top schools
?

Sweet I'm a 9 =)

heh looks like I am a 6 as well! I do not think it hurts chances much for top schools depending on what you mean by top schools. I mean the stat on collegeboard says dartmouth accepted 50% of the 6 applicants. Also it is listed in the very competitive stats range. I am sure you and I will be fine at the vast majority of places we apply adijlad.

im not really a 6. Right now im a 5. I have to study my a** off and get a 1540 on the sat.

well good luck with that then. My best advice would just be to RELAX. I found I was much more relaxed the 2nd time I took it and in turn did much better. (by 100 points) While practice is of course very good do not go overboard and try to relax while taking it.
