Do Semester Averages or Yearly Average Matter More

As a freshman I got straight A’s both semesters and for the year. However, I got a B in theater during the last quarter but I do not think that matters. But this year, I’ve gotten an 88 first quarter and a 95 2nd quarter in regular english which averaged to a 92, which is a B :frowning: I slacked off at the beginning but I know it will be an A for the yearly average. Do colleges looks at quarter, semester, or yearly grades?

Can you clarify your schools grading system and what counts as an A, B, etc?

Colleges look at your grades as a whole. Remember, they tend to look at your junior year grades the most and love to see improvement!

I thought they tended to look at yearly grades

Our HS only sends final grades to colleges.

Colleges request yearly grades. High Schools, however, can format their transcripts as they please. Transcripts with semester grades are common; quarter grades are not. That said, while colleges will put the most weight on year-end grades, if the school sends quarter grades, colleges can’t unsee what they saw. But an 88 will not be the reason you do not get into the college of your choice.

93-100 is an A, 92-85 is a B, 84-75 is C. And there is no + or -. If I got straight 92’s I’d have a 3.0 gpa
